How to Find Storrs Gate House, Bowness-on-Windermere

Storrs Gate House is situated just outside Bowness-on-Windermere, directly opposite Windermere Marina Village and Lake Windermere. We are in a peaceful position just outside the bustle of Bowness, while still being close enough to enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Windermere Marina Village is directly across the road from us, with its lovely bar, restaurant and coffee shop. It is particularly convenient for our guests if you fancy a meal, a drink or a coffee without having to drive or walk into Bowness after a busy day exploring the Lake District.

By Car

From the M6, leave at Junction 36 and follow the signs for Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere.

Continue through Windermere towards Bowness and follow the signs for Windermere Lake and the boat piers. Once you reach the lake, join the A592 south towards Newby Bridge.

Continue along the A592, passing the Burnside Hotel on your left, followed by Ferney Green Drive on your left.

Storrs Gate House is at the next junction, immediately after the signpost for the Car Ferry and Hawkshead, directly opposite Windermere Marina Village.

By Train

Windermere Railway Station is approximately 2½ miles from Storrs Gate House.

Regular trains connect Windermere with Oxenholme Lake District, where you can connect with the main West Coast Main Line. From Windermere Station, Storrs Gate House is just a short taxi journey away.

Arriving by Air

Manchester Airport is our nearest international airport. You can hire a car from the airport or travel by train to Oxenholme Lake District, where you can connect with a train to Windermere.

Depending on the service, you may need to change trains at Preston, Lancaster or Oxenholme. The journey takes approximately 2 hours, depending on connections.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport also has car hire facilities. The journey by car is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
